Summer Camp

The MBL is partnering with YMCA Cape Cod and with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution for the 2022 Summer Camp Program. Supporting our working families is always an important priority for the MBL and is of elevated importance given the challenges of COVID-19 and its impact on the availability of daycare and summer camps.

The YMCA-run outdoor summer day camp program will serve children ages 4 to 13 years, will be licensed through the Department of Public Health and follow appropriate COVID-19 safety precautions. The YMCA does not require children participating in camp to be vaccinated.

Periwinkle Camp for children ages 4-6 will be held in its traditional village location on the MBL campus and the Satellite Camp for children ages 7-13 will be held on the WHOI Quissett campus located under 3 miles away from the MBL village campus. Bus transportation to the Satellite Camp will be provided for children if needed. Details on transportation is forthcoming.

Camp will begin Monday, June 27 and end Friday, September 2. The program will operate Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM with extended day hours to cover 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM.  Families will be able to sign up for one or more weeks of summer camp at a time.

View the YMCA video and/or brochure for more information.

The cost per child is as follows:

  • Ages 4-6 = $405/week or $350/week if local Y member – (9AM – 4PM) – located on the MBL property in the Periwinkle cottage (staff to child ratio is 1:5)
  • Ages 7-13 = $375/week or $305/week if local Y member – (9AM – 4 PM) – located on the WHOI Quissett campus basketball court under a tent with portable restroom facilities (staff to child ratio is 1:10)
  • AM Extended Care = $31/week
  • PM Extended Care = $31/week
  • AM & PM Extended Care Combined = $52/week

Lunch is not included in the program fee; however, financial support is available for those eligible.

As families register for the program, they will receive a welcome packet with details such as:  weekly payment, drop off & pick up location, parent handbook, a list of items that provides children for a healthy camp experience (e.g. sunscreen, hand sanitizer, face masks, towel, etc.), weekly lunch menu, who to contact in case of an emergency pick-up, and how to communicate special instructions for your child (e.g. medication, etc.)

We are excited to offer this summer camp opportunity to the MBL community. If you have any questions, please contact and note the subject line as: Summer Camp.

We recognize the critical role that camp and childcare programs play in enabling our faculty and staff to do their best work in support of MBL’s mission of research and education and are pleased to partner with the YMCA and our neighboring institution WHOI to offer this program.
